Why We Started
American Safe Home
American Safe Home was built by people who had spent decades around this equipment and had watched too many families get priced out of it. Someone works forty or fifty years, raises a family in a house, and then a knee or a hip or a stroke turns the second floor into somewhere they aren't allowed to go. The equipment to fix that has existed for years. What's gone wrong is what it costs to get it installed honestly.
So we do the parts other companies farm out. Our own people measure, our own people install, and the same crew comes back if something goes wrong years later. We sell equipment built in the United States because it's good and because parts turn up quickly when they're needed.
We're out of Morris Plains, New Jersey, and we work across five states from here. Most of the first calls come from an adult child, so we've got used to explaining the whole thing twice — once to the person who called, and once to the person who'll be riding it.

How much does a stairlift cost?
A straight lift on a normal flight of stairs lands in the low thousands installed. A curved rail costs more because it's manufactured for your staircase and nobody else's — often two to three times a straight lift. We won't give you a number over the phone that changes when we see the stairs; we measure, then put the price in writing.
Will it damage the stairs or the wall?
The rail bolts to the edge of the stair treads with brackets, not into your wall, so the plaster and the banister are left alone. When a lift is removed later, what’s left is a set of small holes in the treads that a carpenter can fill.
Does Medicare or insurance pay for it?
Standard Medicare doesn't cover stairlifts. Some Medicare Advantage plans, long-term care policies and state waiver programs contribute, and veterans' benefits sometimes do. We'll give you an itemized quote you can submit, and tell you honestly which route people in your situation have had luck with.
How long does the installation take?
A straight lift is usually a morning. A curved rail is a day once it arrives, but the rail has to be manufactured to your measurements first, which is the part that takes weeks. You get the fitting date at the point you approve the quote.
What does the lifetime warranty actually cover?
The equipment and our installation, for as long as you own the lift. If the lift fails because a part gave out or because of something we did, we come back and fix it. What it doesn't cover is damage from misuse, or a lift someone else has worked on since we fitted it.
What if we don't need it anymore?
Call us and we'll take it out. Straight rails can often be shortened and reused; curved rails were made for one staircase and generally can't be. We'll tell you which yours is before you buy it, not after.
